Leif Ericson Pickleball Club members teach local high schoolers

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

More than 20 students from Leaders High School in Bensonhurst attended a no-cost pickleball lesson at Leif Ericson.

Dozens of local high schoolers visited Leif Ericson Pickleball Club on Friday, October 28, 2022 for a no-cost pickleball lesson taught by club members.

Melissa Rooney, a science teacher and crew leader at Leaders High School in Bensonhurst, is a pickleball player, and she asked the Leif Ericson Pickleball Club if we could introduce the sport to approximately 20 students from the school.

In under one week, the club organized a 2-hour morning lesson and secured more than 20 paddles — including 16 loaners from Paddletek. Certified pickleball coach Hoi supervised Leif Ericson members Tracy, Robert S., Bonni, and Diamond Naga to teach the students.

All four courts were used to teach the students, and they learned how to serve, volley, and play matches through drills as well as gameplay. At the end of the class, two particularly engaged students were awarded with signed Leif Ericson Pickleball Club balls.
